The short version
Buffer is a clean, simple scheduling tool that charges per channel — $6/month each on Essentials, $12/month each on Team. Its AI writes text. That's it.
SonetHub is an AI-first platform that charges flat rates — €0 to €129/month regardless of how many team members you add. Its AI writes text, generates images, creates video, and manages your inbox.
If you schedule posts to 2–3 channels and don't need much else, Buffer is a solid, affordable pick. If you manage more accounts, work with a team, or want AI that does more than rephrase your captions, SonetHub is the better fit.
Pricing: per-channel vs. flat-rate
This is where the two tools diverge the most. Buffer charges per channel. SonetHub charges per plan.
Buffer's pricing (monthly billing):
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel |
| Essentials | $6/channel/mo | Unlimited scheduling, analytics, engagement tools |
| Team | $12/channel/mo | Unlimited team members, approval workflows, reports |
SonetHub's pricing:
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | €0 | 3 accounts, 10 posts/mo, AI chat |
| Starter | €15/mo | 5 accounts, 100 posts, full AI |
| Growth | €29/mo | 10 accounts, 3 team members, unlimited posts |
| Pro | €59/mo | 15 accounts, 5 team members, unlimited posts |
| Business | €129/mo | 30 accounts, 15 team members, priority support |
The math is straightforward. Let's run a few scenarios:
Solo creator, 5 channels:
- Buffer Essentials: 5 x $6 = $30/month
- SonetHub Starter: €15/month flat
Small team, 10 channels:
- Buffer Team: 10 x $12 = $120/month
- SonetHub Pro: €59/month flat (includes 5 team members)
Agency, 15 channels, 5 people:
- Buffer Team: 15 x $12 = $180/month
- SonetHub Pro: €59/month flat
At 3 channels or fewer, Buffer and SonetHub cost roughly the same. The moment you cross that threshold, per-channel pricing starts to hurt. By 10 channels, you're paying 2x more on Buffer Team than on SonetHub Pro — and SonetHub includes team members in the price.
Buffer does offer a 20% discount with annual billing ($5/channel on Essentials, $10/channel on Team). Even with that discount, 10 channels on Team costs $100/month annually — still more than SonetHub Pro.
Free plans compared
Both tools have free plans, but they work differently.
Buffer Free gives you 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel in the queue. Once a post publishes, the slot opens again. There's also a lifetime limit of 8 unique channel connections, so you can't endlessly rotate accounts. The AI Assistant is included with unlimited usage.
SonetHub Free gives you 3 accounts with 10 posts per month total. The AI chat is included — you can generate text, get analytics summaries, and manage basic workflows.
Buffer's free plan is better for pure scheduling because of the per-channel queue system. SonetHub's free plan gives you a taste of the AI agent, which is the real product.
AI: text rewrites vs. full content generation
Buffer's AI Assistant is powered by OpenAI's language models. It generates and rephrases text for social media posts. You can brainstorm ideas, shorten or expand posts, adjust tone for different platforms, and generate content topics through their Ideas board.
It's text-only. Buffer doesn't generate images or video — for visuals, it integrates with Canva, so you leave Buffer, create in Canva, and bring the asset back. That's fine, but it's a different workflow than having everything in one place.
SonetHub's AI is the entire interface. You talk to it, and it does things:
- "Write a LinkedIn post about our product launch and create a matching Instagram image" — it writes the text, generates the image, formats both for their platforms, and queues them.
- "Turn this blog post into a thread for X and a carousel concept for Instagram" — it reads the URL, adapts the content, and creates platform-specific versions.
- "What should I post today?" — it checks your analytics, considers your brand memory, and suggests content with the right tone.
- "Check my DMs and flag anything important" — it classifies your inbox by priority and drafts replies for your approval.
SonetHub generates images (via AI image generation), video, and music — all from the chat interface. Buffer generates text and connects to Canva for everything else.
The other difference is brand memory. SonetHub builds a persistent understanding of your brand — your tone, your audience, your visual style, what performs well. After a couple of weeks, the AI stops sounding like a generic assistant. Buffer's AI doesn't have this. Each generation starts from scratch.

Platform support
| Platform | SonetHub | Buffer |
|---|---|---|
| Yes | Yes | |
| Yes | Yes | |
| X (Twitter) | Yes | Yes |
| Yes | Yes | |
| TikTok | Yes | Yes |
| YouTube | Yes | Yes (Shorts) |
| Threads | Yes | Yes |
| Yes | Yes | |
| Bluesky | No | Yes |
| Mastodon | No | Yes |
| Google Business | No | Yes |
Buffer still wins on platform count. Bluesky, Mastodon, and Google Business Profile are supported by Buffer but not SonetHub. Both tools now cover Pinterest.
SonetHub covers nine major platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky) and goes deeper on each with features like Stories, Reels, polls, threads, and articles. The focus is depth over breadth.

What users complain about
Buffer has a 2.1/5 rating on Trustpilot from 93 reviews. The recurring complaints are about scheduled posts silently failing to publish, which forces users to manually check their queues. Multiple reviewers mention having to verify every day that posts actually went out. The G2 rating tells a different story — 4.3/5 from 1,000+ reviews — which suggests most users are happy, but the publishing reliability issues are real enough to show up consistently.
Other common complaints: the 30-day analytics limit on the free plan, missing optimal posting time suggestions, and customer support responses coming from different people with no context of previous conversations.
SonetHub is newer and doesn't have the same volume of public reviews yet. That's a fair consideration — Buffer has a 10+ year track record.
What Buffer does better
Honest assessment:
- Simplicity. Buffer is one of the cleanest scheduling tools around. If all you need is a queue and a calendar, it's hard to beat. SonetHub's AI-first approach is more powerful but has a steeper learning curve.
- Platform breadth. Bluesky, Mastodon, Google Business Profile — Buffer covers a few more networks than SonetHub. Both now support Pinterest.
- Cheap for 1–3 channels. At $6/month per channel, managing 2–3 accounts on Buffer Essentials costs $12–18. That's competitive with SonetHub Starter at €15/month, and Buffer gives you unlimited scheduling at that tier.
- Canva integration. Buffer's native Canva connection is smooth. You can design directly and pull assets in. SonetHub generates images with AI instead, which is a different approach — faster, but less control over the result.
- Track record. Buffer has been around since 2010. It's a known, stable product. SonetHub is new.
- Annual billing discounts. 20% off with annual plans. SonetHub doesn't currently offer annual discounts.
What SonetHub does better
- Price at scale. Once you're past 3 channels, flat-rate pricing pulls ahead fast. 15 accounts and 5 team members for €59/month — Buffer Team would charge $180/month for the same channel count.
- No per-seat fees. Add team members without adding cost. Buffer Team includes unlimited seats, but charges $12/channel instead of $6.
- AI content generation. Text, images, video, music — all in one conversation. Buffer's AI writes text; you need Canva or another tool for everything else.
- Brand memory. The AI learns your style. Buffer doesn't offer anything equivalent.
- Unified inbox with AI classification. DMs sorted by importance, with AI-drafted replies. Buffer has basic engagement tools but no inbox intelligence.
- EU-based, GDPR-native. Spanish legal entity. If data residency matters to you, SonetHub is built for it.
Who should pick what
Pick Buffer if:
- You manage 1–3 channels and want the simplest scheduling tool available.
- Bluesky or Google Business Profile are key platforms for you.
- You already have a visual workflow with Canva and just need a posting tool.
- You prefer a product with a long track record over a newer alternative.
- Your budget is tight and you only need basic scheduling — Buffer Free handles 3 channels.
Pick SonetHub if:
- You manage 5+ social accounts and don't want your bill to scale per channel.
- You work with a team and refuse to pay per-seat pricing.
- You want AI that generates images and video, not just text captions.
- You care about brand consistency and want an AI that remembers your voice.
- You want inbox management, analytics, and content creation in one place.
- Data privacy and EU hosting matter to your business.
The edge case: if you manage exactly 3 channels solo and only need scheduling, both free plans work. Buffer's is slightly better for pure scheduling (per-channel queues vs. a monthly post cap). SonetHub's is better if you want to test the AI.
