The short version
Hootsuite costs $199/month (billed annually) for one user on the Standard plan, charges per seat, and has a 1.5-star rating on Trustpilot from 540+ reviews — mostly about billing surprises. SonetHub costs €0–129/month with flat-rate pricing (no per-seat fees), includes AI content generation with images and video, and is built in the EU.
If you're a creator, freelancer, or small team, this isn't a close call. But the details matter, so here they are.
Pricing: the numbers
Hootsuite killed its free plan. The cheapest option is now $99/month per user on the Professional plan (annual billing). Here's what the tiers actually cost:
| Plan | Hootsuite (annual) | Hootsuite (monthly) |
|---|---|---|
| Professional | $99/user/mo | $149/user/mo |
| Team | $249/3 users/mo | — |
| Enterprise | Custom (~$1,250/mo min) | — |
SonetHub's pricing:
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | €0 | 3 accounts, 10 posts/mo, AI chat |
| Starter | €15/mo | 5 accounts, 100 posts, full AI |
| Growth | €29/mo | 10 accounts, 3 team members, unlimited posts |
| Pro | €59/mo | 15 accounts, 5 team members, unlimited posts |
| Business | €129/mo | 30 accounts, 15 team members, priority support |
The gap is clearest for teams. A 3-person team on Hootsuite Team pays $249/month. The same team on SonetHub Pro pays €59/month total — not per person. That's roughly 4x less.
For an agency managing 10 accounts with 5 people, Hootsuite Enterprise starts around $1,250/month (5-user minimum at custom pricing). SonetHub Business handles 30 accounts and 15 team members at €129/month flat.
Billing practices
This deserves its own section. Hootsuite has a 1.5-star rating on Trustpilot across 540+ reviews. The pattern in the complaints is consistent: users report being charged full annual fees after free trials end without clear warning, charges continuing after cancellation, and difficulty getting refunds. One reviewer reported having over €1,000 withdrawn after deleting their card details. Another was charged nearly $2,000 AUD when a free trial expired.
G2 tells a different story (4.2 stars), which suggests that users who stick with Hootsuite long-term are satisfied — but the onboarding and billing experience drives a lot of people away before they get there.
SonetHub's free plan has no credit card requirement. Paid plans are monthly by default. You can cancel from the settings page. There's no annual lock-in unless you choose it.
AI: caption generator vs. full agent
Hootsuite's AI is called OwlyWriter. It generates text captions from prompts and suggests hashtags. It's powered by GPT and integrates with Hootsuite's approval workflows. That's the scope — it writes captions and gives you post ideas.
It doesn't generate images. It doesn't create videos. It doesn't manage your inbox. It doesn't learn your brand voice over time.
SonetHub's AI is the entire interface. You talk to it. Examples of what that looks like in practice:
- "Create a LinkedIn post and Instagram carousel about our Q1 results" — it writes the text, generates the images, formats each for the platform, and queues them.
- "What performed best this week?" — it pulls your analytics and tells you.
- "Reply to the important DMs in my inbox" — it classifies messages by importance, drafts replies, and waits for your approval.
The AI also builds a persistent memory of your brand — tone, visual style, audience, posting patterns. After a couple of weeks, the suggestions stop sounding generic.
OwlyWriter is a feature inside a dashboard. SonetHub's AI is the dashboard.

Both tools now support 9 major platforms. SonetHub supports Threads, which Hootsuite doesn't. Platform coverage is no longer a differentiator between the two.

What Hootsuite does better
Being honest here:
- Enterprise features. Complex approval chains, compliance workflows, multi-org management — Hootsuite has 16 years of enterprise tooling. SonetHub isn't built for 500-person marketing departments.
- Ecosystem and integrations. Hootsuite connects to hundreds of third-party tools. SonetHub has Canva integration and is adding more, but the catalog is smaller.
- Track record. Hootsuite has been around since 2008. They're a known quantity for procurement teams that need vendor stability.
What SonetHub does better
- Price. Not close. €15/month vs $99/month for solo use. €129/month flat vs $1,250+/month for teams.
- AI that generates content, not just captions. Text, images, video, music — in one conversation.
- No per-seat pricing. Your cost doesn't multiply when you add a team member.
- Unified inbox with AI. DMs classified by importance, auto-replies, business inquiry detection. Hootsuite has an inbox, but no AI classification.
- Brand memory. The AI learns your voice. Hootsuite doesn't have an equivalent.
- EU-native. Spanish legal entity, GDPR by default, official OAuth APIs only.
